The thoughts running through my mind feel
like I’m running through a minefield;
and I just can’t keep my head straight,
but at least I know I’m running
instead of staying in one place.

Whatever I’m holding on to,
I’m holding on with soiled hands.
If I’m dirtying a dream
I hope it doesn’t hurt my chance,
but what the hell.
I might as well…

I’ve been listening to the same three bands
and wishing the night away,
but all my nightmares are keeping me awake.
I’ve been waiting for the sun to rise
and wishing my life would change,
but sitting and wishing doesn’t change a thing.

Operator, disconnect me.
I’m the hand that’s reaching from the wreckage;
hidden in plain sight
and waiting for my rescuer to pass by.
I may always have my head in the clouds,
but at least I’ll know when we get weather;
and it’s helped me to build a parade
that moves faster than the rain.
